# New Server for JASMIN Transfers?

Dear CMS Helpdesk,

I’ve read in the recent updates to JASMIN and their migration to the new Rocky 9 environment that they are not planning to replace [gridftp1.jasmin.ac.uk](http://gridftp1.jasmin.ac.uk). The server is still active at the moment but I guess at some point soon it will be closed down.

It says in the JASMIN documentation that the new [hpxfer3.jasmin.ac.uk](http://hpxfer3.jasmin.ac.uk) and [hpxfer4.jasmin.ac.uk](http://hpxfer4.jasmin.ac.uk) servers are active and equipped for ssh transfer from ARCHER2. However, when I tried recently to run a suite with transfer to JASMIN via hpxfer3, it failed to connect. Is this an issue that you are aware of?

The specific error is:

> error: Unable to check destination url for sync: gsiftp://hpxfer3.jasmin.ac.uk/gws/nopw/j04/mh\_gsp/Palaeoconditioning/u-dl162/18500101T0000Z/  
> globus\_xio: Unable to connect to [hpxfer3.jasmin.ac.uk:2811](http://hpxfer3.jasmin.ac.uk:2811)  
> globus\_xio: System error in connect: No route to host  
> globus\_xio: A system call failed: No route to host

I thought perhaps it’s to do with the cred.jasmin file? Is there a process for generating credentials specific to hpxfer3 or hpxfer4 servers?

Any advice is always appreciated, thanks!

Hi Alfred,

The hpxfer3 & hpxfer4 machines are equipped for use with `ssh` transfers only NOT `gridftp`. CMS will be announcing very soon the action that will be required & the changes that will need to be made to suites to continue transferring data from ARCHER2 to JASMIN. For the moment please continue to use `gridftp1.jasmin.ac.uk` until announced otherwise.

Just to follow up. See our new item [IMPORTANT: Retirement of JASMIN Gridftp server](https://cms.ncas.ac.uk/news/gridftp/) for the announcement regarding retirement of `gridftp1.jasmin.ac.uk` and instructions on how to move to using Globus for data transfers.
