Creating a dump file for 2001

Hi there,
I am running an ISIMIPa JULES suite, I asked for help to shorten the period that originally started in 1801. Thanks to you, I did it, but I made the first run from 1981 when I wanted 2001 to match the dump files and the initial conditions (from 1991 every ten years). Then, with that run (u-dh532), I expected to create the dump files that helped me to make the desired run from 2001. It made sense for us to decrease the length of each spinup cycle to 1 year to have dump outputs every year, but it didn’t work. The output dump files are for 1981, 1987, 1990, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2017,2020 and 2022. I have no clue how to force it to output on 2001; I would appreciate your help.

Note:
I appreciate your help before; a couple of topics were closed before I said thank you.

please point me to where the dumps are written

The dump files and the model results are in /work/scratch-pw3/eempvg/u-dh532/20CRv3-ERA5/.

Thanks.

these dumps at 6-yr intervals presumably correspond to the cycle frequency (6yrs)
dump.19810101
dump.19870101
dump.19930101
dump.19990101
dump.20050101
dump.20110101
dump.20170101

these dumps
dump.19900101
dump.20000101
dump.20100101
dump.20200101
arise from the setting dump_period = 10yrs (see 6.35. output.nml — Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES) v7.4 User Guide)

I am not sure where dump.20220101 comes from.

So to get a dump at 2001, try setting dump_period = 21

Hi Grenville,
The model is running with the suggested dump_period = 21, I will let you know when it finished. I am optimistic. Thank you very much :grinning:.

Note: regarding the dump output in 2022, it probably is because that is the last year for the model.

Grenville

Hi Greenville,

The model has already reached 2005, and the new dump files out of the outputted before are for 1995, and the model skips the output for 2001 :frowning:
I had dump_period = 21; I don’t understand why it was output in 1995 and not in 2001.

Any idea is appreciated.

Hi Maria Paula

Well, that’s not all what I expected given what the documentation says.

I would try setting dump_period = 1. It should soon be apparent if this is going to work.
