AMIP ancillaries on archer2

Hi,

I have run an AMIP suite on puma2 for the years 1981-2010. I would like to extend the run to 2015 (i.e. when the AMIP runs as part of CMIP ended). The suite I am running (u-dd998) uses ancillaries that end in 2010 so of course fails when I tried to run past 2010.

Are there ancillaries on archer2 for the years past 2010? I looked in /work/y07/shared/umshared but I couldn’t easily find any.

Thanks,
Jacob

Hi,

I just wanted to flag this again before it closes. I’ve tried various ancillaries in the shared directory but can only find amip ones that finish in 2010. If you know of any available on archer2 that would be great, otherwise I can try and get them from elsewhere. I have some compute time left that needs using before the end of the current period so ideally looking to get these runs going soon.

Many thanks,
Jacob

Hi Jacob

Sorry for the slow reply - which ancillary files are you looking for? It’s not clear from looking at the logs for u-dd998 which files are needed.

Grenville

Hi Grenville,

I need sst/seaice ancillaries and ukca emission NetCDF files for SO2_low, SO2_high and DMS.

Thanks,
Jacob

Hi,
The CMIP6 ancillaries including the NetCDF emissions can be found under /work/y07/shared/umshared/cmip6/ancils/.
However, you might need to consider whether it is appropriate to switch data sources in the middle of the run, or re-run with CMIP6 for the full period.
Cheers

Thanks Mohit. I was thinking the data would be from the same source but just with the additional years I need included at the end. I’ll check if the data you suggested matches that my suite uses for the years 1981-2010.
Cheers, Jacob

Hi again,
I couldn’t see any sst/sea ice ancillaries in /work/y07/shared/umshared/cmip6/ancils/. I assume because these are for the coupled runs and not the atmosphere only run. Is there a similar directory for the amip style runs?
Thanks,
Jacob

Hi Jacob,

The CMIP6 sst/seaice files can be found in ancils/n96e/timeseries_1870-2016/SstIce. However, looking at u-dd998 setup it seems to be based on the 0.25 degree ocean (orca025, for sea mask, etc) while the CMIP6 data at n96e corresponds to a 1-degree resolution ocean (orca1) model.
It will be more appropriate to use SSt/Seaice from the GC5 set /work/y07/shared/umshared/ancil/atmos/GC5/n96e/orca025/ which has data for 1981-2019. It might also be preferable to use other ancillaries from GC5/n96e/, including the UKCA ones.
