HadGEM3-GC5 ARCHER2 suites

Good morning,

I was wondering if anyone has created picontrol/historical suites of HadGEM3-GC5 with CMIP6 forcing on ARCHER2?

I have been working with u-cy010 (ORCA025 N216, year-2000 forcing) which Ros ported, but I also see that there are two other suites which also appear to be versions of HadGEM3-GC5.

Is anyone aware of the differences between these suites?

Hi Tarkan.

I’m not familiar with these exact workflows but a good way of finding out some top-level information about each one (owner, brief description, etc) can be found in the rose-suite.info file in each of simulations’ root directories in, e.g., $HOME/roses/u-cy010. I’ve attached a screengrab of the differences between each of these files for the three workflows you mention using vimdiff.

In summary they appear to have some non-trivial pairwise differences such as in their ocean resolutions and Cylc versions.

Further to what Jonny has said:

u-da412 is the Met Office N216 ORCA025 present day trunk job, further details can be found here: https://code.metoffice.gov.uk/trac/gmed/wiki/GADocumentation/GAJobs/GCDev/GCDocumentation/u-da412

u-dj927 as can be seen above is PI and was originally from Till Kuhlbrodt which Grenville took and ported to ARCHER2 and upgraded to 13.3. I don’t know what the originality of the job is without backtracing which you can do using the rose-suite.info files. Easiest done on MOSRS where you can just click through.

Thanks, I’ll trace it back as you suggest! This is perhaps a bit of a naive question, but is there any documentation on how to set up a picontrol and historical from a constant year-2000 forced suite. I can see that there are CMIP ancils on ARCHER2 (/work/y07/shared/umshared/cmip6/ancils/) so I guess in principle it’s just a case of pointing to the right files?
